Fry Day

...we begin chemotherapy tomorrow at 7:30 am. We received no prior orientation nor special instructions to follow before beginning the protocol, so we're not sure what to expect beyond what we've seen in documentaries or heard from other friends and family who have walked this path.

Twelve hours later we meet with a local woman who does Mehendi Body Art. (That sure fell into place more quickly than I'd anticipated.) She has never done a scalp before but she seems willing to explore the options with us.

I've had to reschedule the SSDI appointment I had for tomorrow morning; that will now happen Monday morning at 10. Did I tell you that the package of info they sent came with a $.39 due sticker? *shakes head sadly*

Tuesday I should be sending my donation to Locks of Love.

Felt the benefits of a full night's sleep in that I was able to do six loops this morning and didn't fall asleep on my feet all day.

Today's massage worked out some final pockets of crepitus -- sure hung around a long time for something that no one warned us could happen. The massage also helped with the residual pain in my right lung from the chest tube.

For anyone who might be interested, Trooley and Kevin will be defending the CR title for the Canine Disc Competition on 6/9. Other than that, we'll be sticking pretty close to home.

Am planning to get a good night's sleep before tomorrow's adventure.
Here's wishing you do, too. *crosses fingers*

I'm still licking my wounds from Diana's comment that my hair isn't nearly short enough for an "empathy buzz" cut. I'm going to get Robyn a couple glasses of wine and we'll see if we can fix that.

Had a nice memorial day with Mom, for a change, and she didn't ask for wine. She's very weak and kept asking "how did I get this way?", giving me the opportunityh to explain: Urinary tract infection, stopped eating, kept drinking. Seems to be sinking in. That's a releif. It's kind of like having an "old" teenager.

Remember, if Chemo doesn't wipe you out, that there is some seriously good music downtown:

Tonight, the Roches, whom I dearly love, and Nanci Griffith, who is a "safe" headliner in my opinion.

Tomorrow night: the Subdudes, who for my money are perhaps the top vocal, R&B, acoustic, Cajun flavored band playing. I adore them.

Let's plan for warm Spring nights, sweet music, and imperviousness to chemo side effects.

I'll check in by phone after work and see how it goes. Peace to all, wherever you find it.

Best of luck to Kevin and Trooley!

6 laps you say? Much more than I can handle!

What are you thinking for henna, DP? I've always had an inclination to get one, but have never found time or resource.

Much love!

...so now you know what I'm going to blog about today and I won't do it here.

Since it's improper for me to thank your kindredspirit-self, please do something special to nurture it tonight.

Hey, Sammy, any chance we can be invited to that party ...or to have it here? We'll learn about wine for her *nodnod*

And I wish you could see all the face reactions we get to the expression "Emapathy Buzz." *heh*

...an old teenager...wining instead of whining...I think I need to reflect on both of those a bit more. And, reflecting on things might be a bit easier once my skull is shiny, nicht? *ducks and other birds*

FWIW, what you're doing helps validate what we did with regard to eldercare. Thank you for that. Let us continue to learn from each other's experiences *crosses fingers*

Thanks also for the reminder about tonight's music. We were ready to go _last_ weekend because of some misinformation... Oh, well...

We wish you warm, dry weekend nights (though my garden is soaking up this wonderful rain) *notes dissonance*
*tunahugs*

Tim, would you call us sometime this weekend -- when you're not running? We would like to talk some shop... *grins*

Re it being breast cancer that you're running for: cancer manifests in a myriad of arenas and forms, and there seems to be no prejudice within the camcerSociety in that regard...except, of course, on a scale of 1 - 4.

Oncologists seem inclined to say things like, "It's the best bad news you can have." Or, we can't cure it, but we can't manage it." But beyond that, we all have cancer...maybe I'd rather have another type or stage, but no one is treated differently on that basis.

I've been invited to Gentle Yoga for breast cancer survivors, despite the title of the class. It's offered at the hospital and it's free.

Katie, these rains should help the plants. Just water the redbud regularly this summer, and the long term rewards will be plentiful.

Good luck to both of you with the run. Our kindredspirits will be running with you. Thank you for doing it!

What NancyTurtle said *grinsbigly*

Our love and *hugs* to all of your families.

Hi, Lo!!!

...um...regarding the six laps. Five laps around da Lane is a mile, six laps would be about 1.2 miles. I'm hard pressed to believe that you would even be phased by that little distance... That is you in the photo, right? *thwaps self*

Re the henna: I'm still researching and have found good info on Wikipedia under "Mehndi" and by searching "henna art" or Mehndi in general. That led me to also look at body paints.

Apparently there's one other woman in San Francisco who's done this to her scull. (I learned about her on Wed.) and I've inquired as to whether she'd talk with us. Pretty much everyone else -- well, except the kewlest peeps -- has been pretty freaked, or minimally, taken aback.

*shrugs* ...we've always known how tough it's been to be a trend setter. Look at the trendy diagnosis we just got *blinks*

In the meantime, the woman I'm meeting tonight should help round out our education on this. She also has patterns. Big question is how much it costs.

There are both stencils and henna applied with brushes from what I'm reading.

Maybe we can get a kit of something together for CFV -- empathy Mehndi? We'll certainly keep you apprised of what we learn.

Regards to daNephew and daIn-Laws, and hug yourself for me?

*teeters off to compose a narration of today's adventures*

Make a great rest of the day.
