...but a Bottle Tree!

This is our first; it's a tree that needed to come down as it was too close to da Lane.
We'd seen the comeback of bottle trees a few months ago and decided it was something we might do, not only as yard kitsch, but perhaps as a 'cottage industry.' This bottle tree is permanent...well until the tree falls over...and seemed a natural place to start. We're working on portable options, as well.
No Eldercare today, so Kevin and I took care of Mom this morning and afternoon. C and D came over, had lunch, and helped entertain Mom, and us, as well. We walked da Lane watched birds for a while and had a leisurely lunch.

I had a quiet day, mostly.
We had some of Mother Nature's fireworks this afternoon and enough rain to make puddles in the road. I'm not a fan of fireworks and haven't been to a fireworks event since Sara freaked out in the park in Coralville-1979 I think. Until tonight, that is. I didn't plan to see fireworks, but there they were on top of the hill to the south. Our neighbors there usually have a 4th of July event and this year they somehow got a small supply of the real stuff. It lasted about 5 minutes. My Border Collie Amy is still under the clawfoot bathtub and Nell, the shepherd, was attached to my right ankle for at least 10 minutes after it stopped. I trust the instincts of my dogs-fireworks are not my idea of entertainment. At least the ground was wet so we don't need to worry about a brushfire....
Bottle trees are all over the South. Saw them when we went to Georgia. Great idea!

*nods to cranium man* They've been referenced for the past few months in a number of the gardening mags...all of the tress they show are located in the south (Delta region in Mississippi is where they first surfaced -- to catch evil spirits...)

Kevin and I have been working on portable designs since we noted them featured earlier this year.
Yes, we have the mike stand. It's moved from the garage to our living room in hopes that we'll remember to give it to you.
I posted on cranium man's blog that we, too, eschew firework displays. The nearby sounds last night reminded me of thunder, so I could pretend it was a storm.
I hope Amy and Nell are back on top of their games by now.

Amy and Nell are fine now. Amy backed her way out from behind the tub at my insistance an hour after the booms stopped. She hates thunder as well, but these sounded more like cannons than thunder.
I'd like to keep the rain here a bit longer, if ya'll don't mind.
