We started stuff this morning about 6. They wheeled Diana down to the pre and post surgery ward, and we met with her surgeon, Dr. R (yeah, that's different). He said he got the case because of his interest in these kinds of tumors, and the fact that he's a brain surgeon and a radiation oncologist (he's two, two, two docs in one!). He said it's his birthday today, so he's feeling lucky.
Seriously, though, he didn't seem too concerned with the surgery. The biggest concern is fluid build-up, which they can fix with a drain, and intercranial bleeding, which they have to back after. They'll do a post-op CT to check for bleeding. He says the cerebellum can suffer a lot of damage without ill effects to the patient -- dp will proabably lose some eye-hand coordination with her left hand, but it will come back as different parts of the cerebellum learn how to pick up the slack.
He says his part only takes 3 hours, but with prep and post and all, it'll probably be seven hours before I can see her, and they'll probably take her back to the same room she was in before (here we come, Pearly!) He does call up with updates, so I'll hear something before their done.
Meanwhile, there's a guy here (we saw him in prep) with 16 family members for a 12 hour surgery. While that may be comforting to him, it makes the lounge here pretty damned crowded.
I'm going to try to learn javascript.

Faith commented that he's the big "tumor guy," (not that Faith had anything to do with any information). Not a nickname I'd like, personally. Sounds like this kind of procedure is relatively routine, brain surgery wise, so I hope it's boring for him.
I'm starting in CR and ending in IC, so may stop by for a bit early afternoon, and check in after my 5:00 client is done. Let me know if you want me to bring over something with enormous amounts of choleterol.
Did Olive and Katie find their way there yet?
Katie, Mom and Colleen got here around 10. It sounds like they did an inadvertent tour of Iowa City before they got here.
No updates yet.
prayers are winging their way along the flow of loving energy that connects us all. will stop by mid-day. can i take your dog for a walk? figured you might not want to leave there and don't want to call on cells. will check here for response before i leave home. loving you both. A. Noni Mouse
I've called Ron about feeding Trooley and letting him out for a bit.
otay-will see you soon. a. noni
We got a call a little after noon. Surgery is going well, they're almost ready to close, and Dr. R has a meeting, so Dr. B will be up to talk to me.
thank you for keeping us so up to date, kevin. sounds like good news...i'm going to call marie at pathways and let her know. i will be there as soon as either of you asks for me (figuring you have plenty loved ones around right now), or before i leave tomorrow.
all my love as always.
Right now, it's Mom, Katie, Colleen, Cinda, Sam and Seth. A few more, and we can challenge the family of 16 to a football game!
Sam accidentally got off on the fifth floor on his way up here, and saw dp being wheeled into recovery. He said everyone looked bored, so that's a good sign.
Still waiting to talk to the doctor, though...
I think the CIA in the next administration may have a job for Sam. "Accidentally got off on the wrong floor", indeed. Good work.
Kevin - Believe it or not, P just told me about all this just the other day. I'm stunned. Yous twos have no idear how you've touched my life! Just wanted to let you know that I love you both, and I'm prayin' like mad.... I know that P would rather be there with you than anywhere else on the planet right now. He lurves football...

*arms crossed toe tapping* waiting for Dr. B
Dear Kevin,
I just got home from work and checked all of the comments and your message. It sounds like things went well. We are still praying and hoping that things turn out even better. We'll keep checking. When Diana wakes up, give her our love.
Take care of yourself, too.
Carol and Fred
Waiting, waiting, waiting...I've been following along all day and you've been in my thoughts and heart throughout today and for many days before.
*tight hugs*

hey all...i just talked with slevy, who was there when the doctor was with (the still somewhat sedated) diana in her room just a while ago. he (the doc) said the surgery went very well, then asked her to hold up two fingers, this hand, that hand, wiggle toes, and say things. she breezed through these tests with apparently no trouble at all.
*sigh* i feel so much better now.
love y'all!
The Wisconsin contingent arrived back in Madison at about 7:30. We highly recommend the Dairy Queen in Solon when you are heading this way. They are very nice and in fact are sending mom's purse to her as she left it there. :) We're glad we were there. Love, Katie
....exhale....

I am so thankful for blogland as a way to keep up. I appreciate hearing how events have unfolded today and that DP is passing her tests - woohoo!
I know I live at UIHC and have been hankering to make another visit - I figure I should ditch this nasty cold before I come around. Then, I am at your service if I can be of any assistance. Sending great big love and healing thoughts your way, Marcy
Thanks for the update Dede. I was getting lightheaded holding my breath, so ditto Sara!
Love you all!
dear dp,

I came up to the hospital and looked in the SICU waiting room and didn't see anyone (good sign #2, one being DP her actual self); then I called around and no one was home. I called the SICU and Kevin wasn't there (good sign #3, 'cause he wouldn't leave if things weren't steady).
Dede called and updated me, saying DP passed her neuro test, and things were stable. Thank Heaven for small favors.
I'm home, feeling pretty good about breathing in and out, the taste of a beer, and a quiet evening.
May we all rest, more or less comfortably, the remainder of the night.
I never left the SICU. dp was feeling pretty crappy, so I hung out til 11:15 or so.
Everything is going pretty well, though. I'm going to get some sleep now.
No posts today! I'm guessing there's no internet hookup in the SICU.
