By the time I got back, dp had been downstairs for her CT, discharged from the SICU, and moved back to the 6th floor (JC East, instead of JC West, but I noticed Pearly was still in dp's old room).
It's an improvement. We've got a private room with a lovely view of the emergency room parking lot, the taller parts of downtown IC, and even City High in the distance. dp's back to three leads, and I think just one IV, and for the first time since she's been admitted, no infusion pump. She still has the Kendall leg cuffs and a catheter, but I'll take any improvement I can get. dp still feels real groggy and pretty darned unhappy. I'll give the new phone number to Katie and Cinda, but rest assured, she doesn't want to talk to you right now. She's been sleeping as write this, so that's good.
Still, we're on our way out of here, now, and I think her vertigo is clearly better, even if she doesn't want to acknowledge it. The curtains here have the same vertical stripes, but since her bed faces the wall, she doesn't actually have to look at them. (BTW, SICU curtains have both vertical and horizontal stripes -- a veritable vertigo extravaganza.)
Back to last night (sorry I didn't get a chance to blog earlier -- there might have been an internet connection somewhere in the room, but I wasn't going to risk ticking off a nurse to ask for one) -- one of the "is-your-brain-still-working" questions was "what's the next major holiday?" Neither the day nurse or the night nurse knew what "Winter Solstice" meant.
Katie, Co and Mom left about 4 or so, I think, leaving a care package with Seth. When I looked in the fridge this morning, I found a bag of salad, a lasagna of some sort, assorted bananas, apples and oranges, and a pineapple. I had half the salad for lunch, but I'm still pondering about what to do with the pineapple -- maybe something with rum. ;)

Thanks for the updates. I assume that if you're thinking rum and pineapple go together you must be feeling better too.
Hannah wished dp a happy winter solstice, if the nurses want proof that it is the next major holiday!

It was so good to see DP. She was sleeping when I arrived, with Kevin at her bedside. She immediately wiggled her toes, etc. when asked, and I was amazed that when asked what day it was, said "the 28th". I looked at my watch, and sure enough, today is the 28th. I did not stay long, and did not see DP awake. Sleep is peaceful, and it was good to see DP sleeping peacefully.
I will see her again tomorrow.
Peace to all.
"Yeah…HUGE sigh of relief!"
That was my sister Linda's response to the news that Diana was out of surgery and passing all her neuro checks last night.
I'm with you, Sleeves, I would have had to consult a calendar to know that today was the 28th.
Sleep and rest and heal, my dear friend and sister. You are much loved.
Actually, the student nurse this morning thought it was the 30th. I asked her if we needed to take HER down for a head CT.
I'm about out of here for the night, I think. dp needs sleep, and so do I.
Kev,
The "lasagna dish" is stuffed shells...spinach, mushrooms, low-fat ricotta. I was going to leave heating instructions but Mom said, "Kevin is not a novice", or something like that.
It was good to get to spend time with you yesterday. I am still laughing about "Mom, he's bat shit crazy." (For those of you who weren't there, this was Kevin's response to the possibility of Olive voting for Giuliani.)
I hope dp is feeling better tomorrow. Glad she got a private room. Kiss her for us.
Love,
Colleen
I too have talked about 'bat shit crazy'- which we can laugh about since mom can't read these. I'm not sure how convinced she was, but I'm leaving that up to Kevin since I can't have a conversation like that without swearing. Here's wishes for a good day for both you and dp and yes, I'll still be checking this about every 20 to 30 minutes along with Sam, Nancy, Seth, Sinda and others!
Actually, Bat Shit is a valuable commodity, a.k.a. guano. Guano-lani? Never mind.
My brother in law, the one who actually thinks somewhat objectively, is always trying to figure out how he can like me and disagree with me on virtually every political issue. He wondered if I could be swayed by Giuliani's support of gay marriage and abortion choices. I told him that I remember the big G from before 9-11. It took 3,000 dead people to make him look sympathetic.
BTW, Dick Cheney's in for heart work again. I don't get it; does he BORROW one?
Okay, I'm done ranting for now. It's good to be back at political drama, rather than personal. Love to all. Let's have a boring rest of the week, eh?
