The Ides of January (+3)

Up to now, there's been nothing much to report. Diana is spending most of her time sleeping -- less so this week than last. Her appetite is good, and we walk from the bed to the bathroom several times a day. Her PT has her doing work with weights. No news is good news, ya know?

Unfortunately, there's news.

I think I mentioned a spot on dp's left kidney when they looked at the CT. It was right at the bottom of the field, so they couldn't tell what it was, and we scheduled an ultrasound today.

The ultrasound tech took pictures for about 15 minutes. She said that "the Doctors" wanted to see the results before we left, and she left the room. Ten minutes later, another tech came in and she took pictures for ten minutes. Finally, a doctor came in, introduced himself, and did the ultrasound himself.
When I asked him what he thought it was, he said it might be a cyst that had hemorrhaged, but they'd have to look at the composite images. He was pretty careful to say nothing.

Dr. C called an hour or so later, and said we'll need to schedule a biopsy. I looked it up, and it appears to be done with a long needle, and takes an hour or so. Diana talked to him, and he didn't seem to be in a real hurry. The tumor is pretty small (5mm, I think) and he's not wanting to subject her to any more treatment until she's feeling stronger anyway.

There's supposed to be another major winter storm coming in tonight. A good time to hide out in da woods, I think.

It's 6:09 and they haven't even delayed school yet. Earlier this year a hard frost would have done the job. It's coming down prodigiously now, but didn't do much last night.

Thanks for the update, Kevin.

I'm rooting for the hemorrhaged cyst, myself.
That storm went around us to the north and east, but it left its calling card. My nifty new indoor-outdoor wireless thermometer read 1.4 degrees at 7AM. I think that's a record for us.

Nancy, is that 1.4 F or C? (:) We're expecting -2F on Saturday. Got about 2" of fluffy white stuff overnight last night and the Seats bus thinks it can't get up Kevin's drive to pick up Marie. I plan to take pictures of how much snow and ice there isn't when I drop off Marie's lunch today.

I'm also thinking this should be another cyst. Hang in there dp!

I'm going to join the double digit club (7/7, 10/10, 11/11, 12/12) this year and celebrate my b.d. on 2/2 with an asian flare. jessie, gara and i will make sushi and miso soup and i'm asking guests to bring food or music with an asian influence. year of the rat, beijing olympics, tsunami tuesday (my actual b.d., 2/5). you're invited! That's 1.4F. We've been below freezing at night for most of the last three weeks. It's very unusual for that kind of cold to last that long here.

Thanks for the B-day Party invite. I don't think I can make it but I hope you have a great time without me.

The SEATS driver today must be the one who can't back in and has to come all the way down to the flight deck to turn around.

I have to say, I'm weary of these procedures. They make me angry. I keep hoping for days in a row without them. You're deserving, dp.

We all hope for better days, and when a cyst on one's kidney is construed as "hopeful," one has had some crappy days.

I wish for you mere frustration at a minor inconvenience, boredom on a Summer afternoon, a rare bird visiting Da Woods, music, sunlight, painfully delinquent puns, bridge, poker, and big monster love. In the meantime, enjoy your naps.

Peace and love, s.

I in-cyst that I could deal with the ceasing and de-cysting of all cysts in Diana's cyst-em. Ok, now the word is losing any meaning in my head.
