The New Grind

We went to radiotherapy in our new scheduled time -- 4:15. Day 2 (or day 35, if you count the other radiotherapy) was pretty uneventful. dp doesn't feel stable enough to walk, so we're using the valet parking feature now, and I've got Marie's old wheelchair in the back of the Baja. So far so good -- dp says the treatments are longer -- a 40-count rather than an 18. She said she could smell something different when they were radiating the lung, but now there's a solid visual cue -- she sees a blue light. So far the biggest side effect is being tired after.

Every day she's a bit stronger, though, in spite of the new therapy. She's sleeping better and longer, and her head is healing nicely. The PT should be here again tomorrow. Having Nancy around is definitely handy...

Me, I've got a reasonably clean driveway, ice storm be damned. The ice is slowly melting off the trees, and the landscape is surreal -- greyscale when it's cloudy and sparkling in the sun.

Robyn was sitting at an intersection yesterday and a large chunk of ice fell from an overhanging tree onto the roof of her car. She said it sounded like a gun going off and called me to report that in spite of this, she had NOT wet her pants.

Glad to hear DP continues to strengthen and that you are master of your driveway. Glad also that Nancy is around. For how long, this time?

Dear Diana and Kevin,

We hope that the treatments do their job. As everyone around here was fond of saying when our little friend from church, Katie DeGrace (age 10, was fighting pediatric ovarian cancer (and won), "BEAT CANCER'S BUTT". Please keep fighting! We'll keep the prayers going from this end. I'll be sending a box containing some nourishment soon. I hope the holidays bring you some joy and peace. You are in our thoughts.

Unfortunately, I have to leave at o-dark thirty Sunday morning. Dede has stepped up to get me to the airport-thanks Dede.
So Kevin will be in need of part time relievers again next week. Hopefully the weather gods will be kinder so he doesn't have to battle the icy driveway again.

Thanks you the good wishes. Katie. It wasn't very smooth, but I am home. It's cold here too but the house is warm.

I've heard from mom that Dede is helping out and I'm glad that she is back and I hope she had a great trip. How is everything going though? We're thinking about you! Katie
