...and we're done with all of our medical appointments -- some of which were not even scheduled.
What _was_ scheduled was a blood draw (hemo screening) which look like they should according to Kevin. Then a chest CT. Then a meeting with Dr. C who said upon cursory glance looked _very_ good.
The other appointments started then. I haven't eaten since Monday night, because I started vomiting Tuesday morning and haven't stopped since. It's also why I didn't start this post with, "I hope you all had a good yesterday, even if you also don't celebrate the Christian Holiday," when I decided that _anything_ would be better than puking all day, including getting gifts one doesn't want.
The next stop was the chemo suite for an IV of saline solution and an anti-emetic. I felt immediately better!
Then back to Dr. C where we learned the radiologists found two other things: a spot on my kidney and a blood clot in my left lung. Kidney
thing is likely a cyst. We're scheduled for a follow-up appointment next week, and somewhere along the line there will be an ultrasound of the kidney.I'm doing well with the home therapy and nurse. (The hospital wqnted me to go to Cedar Rapids to 'special' rehab...long drive for Kevin, but after two weeks of caring for me he might see that as the better alternative...?...
The cataract surgery will have to be postponed a month or two.
In the meantime, my eyes hurt from strain. This was typed with a 24 font....
So many hellos and thankyous will need to wait until later this week. So apologies 5oewy. Seeeeeeeee!
Make a great rest of the day!

Well, good to have you on line, anyway. Did anyone indicate WHY there is still nausea?
With apologies to Letterman, here's my list of the top 5 worst ways to spend a winter holiday:
5 Getting gifts you don't want.
4 Stranded at O'Hare Airport.
3 Snowed in for a week without electricity or water.
2 Working 3 12 hour night shifts in a row.
And the #1 worst way to spend a winter holiday-puking all day and night!
I have to say ditto to Sam's post and I am also wondering if there is any treatment needed for the blood clot.
Dr. C seemed pretty confident that the nausea was the result of going off the steroids before radio-therapy. dp neglected to mention that they were included in this morning's intravenous cocktail.
Apparently, the clot is okay where it is. The lovenox is to keep any more clots from developing and lodging themselves somewhere where they can do more damage.
It's good to hear from you dp! I'm glad the scan looked good and that you are feeling better! I hope you both can get some rest! Love, Katie
I hope you continue to feel better dp. We are going up to the U.P. skiing Thursday-Saturday, but then I am off school and available through Jan. 2nd. I would be very happy to come down and spell Kevin any day you would like. Just let me know.
Love you,
Colleen
Sorry if this isn't the correct venue, but I am fascinated by the Iowa Caucus hoopla. It would be great if some Iowans (is that the term you use?) filled us in on their involvement. Katie
I went to my first caucus last election. It's a little like being on jury duty. People seem to be pretty well informed, and at times I felt as though I hadn't done my homework.
I was for Dean last time. This year I'm going for Obama. My first election I campaigned for McGovern. I sure can pick 'em.
Just remember, Katie, YOU asked!
DP: so sorry you're sick, so glad you're still surviving lung cancer and its horrible sequellae! I tagged into a bad egg last wednesday and am still suffering the remnants of that, so definitely sympathize with the GI symptoms!!!
My typing excue today is a large, jealous black and w hite cat on my lap, insistently nudging my hand, sinking sharp things into my skin.
Katie, come down next thursday. we'll hang with dp for the day and you can go to caucus with me and see how it works. it's not unlike television production: moments of complete confusion, punctuated by hours of intense standing around. Seriously, I do enjoy it. one goes, registers for the evening, hangs out and discusses one's candidate's relativemerits with others to convnce tem to vote ofr one's own guy (or gal), then stands in a group with others who support the same candidate while a poll is taken (headcount). If one's candidate doesn't get 15% of the total number of those present and voting, one may choose a second candidate, or "uncommitted". It sometimes takes several polls (with more "caucussing", or politicking in between) over the evening, until all the unviable candidates' voters are absorbed into the other groups, and there are three left standing. then each group has to vote on who they want from the group to represent their candidate at the next level, the County convention. It does take some stamina to hold up for the entire evening. This year i am caucussing for 4x nobel peace prize nominee/congressman/ambassador/cabinet secretary/governor Bill Richardson, who i velieve hasthe most balanced resume. He does run below the national radar, so i may have to have a 2nd choice, don't know who that will be yet. Nancyturtle: I asked specifically about oil subsidies, he said he would end subsidies to the oil companies in favor of subsidies to family farms(not huge agribusinesses) producing alternative energy. I reminded him that family farms are disappearing, and suggested he try to find out who owns the Garst Seed Company now. So he got a little lesson in Iowa history and realpolitik. (think soviet kruschev, banging shoe on table at u.n.,1959).
Love to you all, Prospero An~o, Vote Early and Often. (Gotta go feed this cat). A. Noni Mouse
Sorry, A Noni. Did you have a second choice?
I think this election cycle is hoing to get very interesting.
