...were the first words out of dp's mouth when she called me. That was followed closely by "they want to send me home today."
This is what happens when doctors don't speak to nurses. The nurse who worked with dp all weekend said that she'd rather wait until dp has bowel movement, since the last one triggered a vasovagal syncope. She went and talked to one of the doctors, who said that they were working on the assumption that she would be going to rehab (St. Lukes in Cedar Rapids is the closest neurology rehab), and we don't think that rehab is actually necessary. I talked to a social worker briefly, and they are supposed to send someone over to talk about home PT options.
Right now, the plan is to bring dp home tomorrow, and set her up upstairs for a couple of days, and then get her back in her own bed later in the week. She'll need a walker and a shower chair, but we've got plenty of each. They want 24/7 coverage at first, so I can probably do most of my work at home. I use some volunteers to give me some coverage for the periods that I do have to go to work for -- Cinda's been a trooper -- covering for several hours at a time, but let's not burn her out.
Meanwhile, I'll be here waiting for staff to come talk to us...

I know you are learning your way around the system very well, but when I went home after my accident, I also had home health care come in for showers every day. Just something to think about. xxoo Katie
Holy Cow
It is nice to hear that Diana is coming home.
What a birthday suprise.
It would be nice if the right hand was in communication with the left.
I'm grateful for your friend being there for you. Oddly enough, I envy any inconvenience that they may feel and would trade it for .. Words escape me.
We wish you a very Happy Birthday Kevin. Were very glad to hear of Diana progress. Continued prayers and positive energy for you and you care givers, are freely given.
Love Jane, Dennis, Gavin, & Kiera
Happy Birthday, Kevin. Your pants are still full. Yay, Diana for coming home! If it happens, and everyone knows.
Happy Birthday indeed, Kevin.
I have next week covered from Monday afternoon thru Saturday night.
Neurosurgeons are known for this kind of surprise early morning announcements. They forget that there are other parts of the body that are affected by the work they've done, and they don't talk to the nurses before they drop the news on the patient and family.
Happy Birthday Kevin. We've been thinking about you and dp all day. We love you.

Diana and Kevin,
Happy, happy birthday, Kevin! That's great news. So glad to hear that you get to go home soon. How is the vertigo? I hope it is gone. We'll continue the prayers at this end. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel this week. You are in our thoughts.

Cinda has been a trouper indeed. She brought ME chicken soup today, to help me get rid of my cold. Thanks, Cinda. It was delicious, and I still have a little for lunch tomorrow.
Happy Birthday, Kevin. I'm hoping to get out to see you and DP soon.
News? Anyone???
Well I talked to Kevin yesterday morning and he was working on the house. He has a hospital bed in the "king room" upstairs and plans to start DP there, then move her to the king bed. She'll be all on one level on the first floor and won't have to do stairs, etc.
My guess is it took all day to get her out and home and they are tired. Kevin was going to stay home mostly and use his "subs" to spell him as needed.
I was going to call late but did not go to band practice and went straight home. In this case, no news is likely to be good news.
That was my guess as well, but waiting for updates makes me anxious. K and D certainly deserve some quiet time at home!
