Diana's Next Great Adventure

...began officially a couple of minutes ago. May God have mercy on us all.

Would a memorial next Sunday work, or should we push it to the weekend after?

  3. Dear Kevin,

I will let the relatives here in Michigan know about Diana's passing. If there is anything you would like me to do, I will gladly do it. Today will be a very tough day for everyone who knew Diana. You and your family are magnificent, caring people. Our thoughts are with you. I'm so happy that we were able to spend time with both of you last summer. I will always remember our time together. Love and prayers are with you.

  5. My thoughts are with you today, Kevin, and with all the others who will miss Diana's presence here in our lives. But my thoughts are also with Diana, who can now soar into her Next Great Adventure, leaving illness behind her. Bon Voyage, sweet Diana.

    Blessings,
    Oregon Connie

  6. I am so sorry that the world I live in is without a Diana now. Does that sound selfish? Then I will add that I am glad that wonderful people like you have gotten the support they need from other wonderful people at such a time.

You are in my thoughts, and I look forward to telling you so in person. Any time you want the memorial to be, we will be there.

Thank you for showing us that painful times do not have to consist only of the agony I know you must be feeling, but that there can be comfort and ease as well as sorrow. Love remains.

  7. I found this poem a few weeks ago, and it just reminded me of Diana. It's about accepting the ending of one life and the beginning of another in nature. Her next great adventure...

My dreams are dreams of the pond
That lives not only to mirror the sky
But to let the surrounding willows and ferns
    Refresh and cleanse me.
Through tree roots I make my way towards the leaves' veins
Their dying brings me no sorrow
    For I've expressed myself,
    I've won life.

My happiness is the sun's happiness
In a brief span of time I'll leave behind enduring works
    That will strike gold sparks
    In children's eyes, and
    In a sprouting seedling
I'll sing a jeweled green song.
    I am artless yet bountiful
    I'm unfathomable.

My pain is the pain of seasonal birds
    Only spring understands such passion.
    Endure all hardships and failures,
Always fly toward a future of warmth and light.
    Ah, the bleeding wings
Will write a line of supple verse
To enter deep within all souls,
    Deep into all times.

    All my feelings
    Are a gift from earth.

    We love you Kevin.

  8. My sister told me a couple of weeks ago that I would know when Diana moved on and it would come with a sense of peace. She was right. My heart aches for those of us left here without her physical presence, but rejoices her new freedom. And she is indeed free again to walk in her beloved woods.

Kevin, I can't be there this coming Sunday as DonnaMarie will be out of town.

Diana's love will live on through the hearts of those of us she touched.

    She will be missed.

  11. In memory of my sweet, gentle, loving friend, I present the lyrics most commonly associated with Taps:

"Day is done, gone the sun
From the hills, from the lake, from the sky
    All is well, safely rest;
    God is nigh."

And, perhaps a paraphrase from the Grateful Dead's "He's Gone":

"Like a steam locomotive rolling down the track; she's gone. She's gone and nothin' gonna bring her back. She's gone."

  12. Truly a leader and the best, she'll always be an inseparable part of my introduction to Iowa City. You can find me at the other end of the line any time, Kevin.

  13. Unfortunately, I did not get to work with Diana very long in Pulmonary Rehab. That didn't mean I forgot about her. Thank you for all the updates on your site, which allowed me to check on her daily without invading your space. I am very sorry you have lost the love of your life.

  14. Jesus. I just got this. I'm not surprised. I was there last night delivering good scotch and consuming some of it. Diana's breathing was labored and each breath came with a long pause after it. Eventually she'd take another breath and an equally long pause after.

I wasn't a good place for her sprit to be. I'm glad she's gone from there.

    We miss her terribly.
